About Us

We are the hidden gem of sporting clubs on the Mornington Peninsula, situated in the local township of Capel Sound on grounds named after local Shire Councilor George Vernon Wright, who also played 5 games for Carlton in the VFL from 1920-22, and who in 1955 became Carlton’s inaugural Past Players President. Born on the 2nd of June 1900 in Brunswick, Vern as he was commonly known, passed away on the 17th of April 1978 in South Melbourne, and is laid to rest at Dromana Cemetery.

Our Club was formed in 1958, and we pay tribute and are indebted to our early members who made an incredible sacrifice contributing their time, effort, and finances, to build the club we have today from very humble beginnings when located 49 3/4 miles from Melbourne. The original greens are now used as a car park on vacant land situated behind La Porchetta in Capel Sound (formerly West Rosebud).

Since relocating to our current location in the late 1980’s, we acknowledge the foresight of James McKenzie Sloss, our clubs very first President, who with the support of members and his hard-working committee, guided the bowlers into their first season of competition in 1959, sowing the seeds for the success and enjoyment that has followed for more than sixty years.

With ample free car parking from our Elizabeth Avenue entrance, our picturesque surrounds provide an inspiring and unsurpassed end to a satisfying day of lawn bowls and croquet. If you are looking for a sporting activity that promises fun and enjoyment, then the friendly, welcoming atmosphere at the West Rosebud Bowling & Croquet Club is the place to be.

Come and join us at 66a Elizabeth Avenue, Capel Sound.
